When you think back it seems like Baby Shark took the world by storm overnight. First our kids were singing it in the back of the car on the way to school and then all of a sudden we were doing ridiculous moves on our spinning bikes in the gym to it.
It’s a really catchy song and once it’s stuck in your head, it’s really difficult to get rid of it. So, it should come as no surprise that Baby Shark has now become YouTube’s most-watched video of all time.
To date, it has been played 7.04 billion times. Played back-to-back that translates to it being streamed continuously for 30.187 years.
The song was uploaded to YouTube in 2015 and it took 4 years for it to move to the top of YouTube’s most-played chart.
But why is it so popular?
The theory is that kids love repetition and that’s why it climbed the ranks so quickly on YouTube. The catchy, easy dance moves is another reason why kids – especially kids under 5 – want to watch it over and over again.
