Elbe Truter, Buying Manager for Volpes SA and Biggie Best shares her top décor tips to create a toddler room your child will love:
Add colour with curtains
Curtains are a great solution if you’re looking to add a touch of colour to a kid’s bedroom. Blockout curtains will keep your child’s room cool during summer and they also block out noise and will keep the room darker for longer, a little encouragement for a longer lie in!
Comfy bedding
A light weight 100% cotton duvet inner that is highly absorbent, breathable and long lasting is perfect for the warmer months and the South African climate. A Bamboo Pillow Protector that is a thermo-regulated waterproof with a highly absorbent top layer will ensure good neck and back alignment while your little one sleeps.

Colour and Paint
A Chalkboard wall will keep your toddler entertained for ages – she can create her masterpieces (without drawing on the wall!) Neutral paints have the advantage of longevity and can make future room swaps a lot easier as the colour won’t need to be changed. Wallpaper, although pricey, is another option if you’re looking to add a touch of personality to your child’s room.
Furniture
When you buy furniture, look for pieces that can ‘grow’ with your child as they reach different stages in their lives. Invest in quality pedestals with drawers for additional storage (these can also be used in a guest bedroom at a later stage).
Storage
Your child’s bedroom is not only a place for them to sleep, it’s also where they discover, play and learn. Ensure you have suitable storage place (at their height) so they can help to pack away puzzles, toys and books. Hooks, shelving and baskets for storage are some ideas to help clear the clutter.
