Spring is in the air… and Katy Perry has given birth to her Daisy!

It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for: Katy Perry has finally given birth to her first baby, daughter Daisy Dove, and we couldn’t be happier for the singer and her fiancé Orlando Bloom.

The couple who are both Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations Children’s Fund, let UNICEF introduce their bundle of joy to the world with an exclusive statement, although they didn’t provide details of the birth.

“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” the proud parents said.

In the sweetest black and white snap of them holding their newborn’s hand, Katy pays homage to her baby, a hand-painted white daisy visible on her thumb. The baby is wearing a simple cotton ‘gro and a little patterned hat.

Daisies hold a special significance for the couple. The Pirates of the Carribean actor proposed to Katy with an ornate daisy engagement ring on Valentine’s Day last year. Ahead of the birth, hinting at the baby’s name, the singer also released a song called Daisies in May, the lyrics about the strength of the human spirit as it overcomes adversity.

The couple used their personal milestone to draw attention to underprivileged mothers and children who don’t have access to quality medical care, especially during the pandemic.

In their statement, the couple said that although they are joyously celebrating the birth of their daughter, “[they] know [they are] the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as [theirs] was.

“Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every 11 seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes.”

They added that “as parents to a newborn, this breaks [their] hearts, as [they] empathise with struggling parents now more than ever.”

“As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, we know UNICEF is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare.

“In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival.

“By supporting UNICEF, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your ❤️ can bloom with generosity,” they said.
